Dear Friends,
Years ago Mark Reid was our CC GOP Chairman. He had been a precinct chair. He helped start the Plano Citizens Coalition. When Matt Shaheen stepped down as a county commissioner the County Judge, Keith Self, appointed Mark Reid as a temporary Commissioner. He lost the election to Susan Fletcher. That is background history for you to picture Mark Reid.
Chairman Reid put himself in conflict with the Collin County GOP Executive Committee over rules changes. He wanted changes to the rules that would increase his power and the Rules Committee refused to recommend his proposed changes. Chairman Reid retaliated by not letting us meet as an Executive Committee until we agreed to give him the rules he wanted.
I remember Terry Wade as being the lead in getting a petition among the precinct chairs (PCs) calling for a meeting. Terry Wade arranged a meeting room for our meeting and sent out the Call for Meeting. Mark Reid called a meeting at the same day and time and at another location. Scuttlebutt was that many people were telling Mark Reid that he should resign. Everyone went to Terry's meeting. I heard that Stephen Kallas went to Mark Reid's meeting. Mark Reid gave a letter of resignation to Vice Chair John Myers. When nearly no one showed up at Mark's meeting, he called John and told him to read the letter of resignation. If others helped Terry Wade arrange the meeting and helped with the petition, I forget because what was years ago. I apologize if I forgot important contributions from other people.
I can tell you that there are records that show that we met Rudy’s “Country Store” and Bar-B-Q, 9829 Dallas Parkway, Frisco on October 19, 2021. The minutes of this meeting are in the Call for Meeting to the November 8, 2021 EC meeting. Did Terry Wade have the power to remove Mark Reid? No. But the meeting that she organized led to Mr. Reid's resignation. She was not Executive Director at that time. Neal Katz was the Executive Director. Terry had been President of the Collin County Conservative Republicans.
We met at Rudy's and we conducted business. We voted on a Rules Package. We appointed Precinct Chairs. Byron Henry was the General Counsel for the CC GOP then and he did not tell us that we could not conduct business, and he did not sue us either.
When County Chair Byron Henry improperly cancelled our June 1, 2026, EC meeting, Precinct Chair Rachel Elliott followed the same formula to call for our scheduled EC meeting as did Terry Wade, but this time Byron Henry sued Rachel Elliott, and others. You must understand that the Executive Committee voted to meet on June 1 and Chairman Henry was supposed to have the EC vote to move the meeting, but Chairman Henry neglected to do that, so his moving the meeting without our approval was improper. Rachel and others felt that we had a right to meet at the time we had previously voted to meet. Some precinct chairs said that they were afraid to attend the June 1 meeting called by a petition of precinct chairs, like what Terry Wade did years ago, because they were afraid of being sued by Byron Henry.
It's a sad situation when your party chairman is suing and intimidating the people he is supposed to lead. It is particularly troubling to see the double standard, that as General Counsel to the Party back in 2021 he did not sue Terry Wade when she did that same thing that Rachel Elliott did.
Thank you for your patience.
Robert Canright
